Inbox AI summarizes your email before customers read it

Gmail and Apple Mail can now show your customer a short AI summary of your email before they read a word of it.

Two big inbox apps now write a short summary of an email before a person reads it.

Gmail Help says Gemini in Gmail can put an AI Overview at the top of a long email thread. That overview pulls together the key points. Apple Support says that with Apple Intelligence turned on, Mail can show short summaries right in the inbox. Apple also has Priority Messages, which puts time-sensitive emails at the top of the inbox. Readers control these settings and can turn them off.

What this means for a shop

The summary is built from the words in your email. So write the email the way you want it summed up.

  • First two lines: the one point and the one ask.
  • Subject: plain words that say what the email is about.
  • From-name: the owner or the shop, a name customers know.

I write every email in the owner's voice, and the owner approves it before it goes out. That way the assistant sitting in your customer's inbox gets your message right. If you want your recent emails checked against this, start with the email review.
