Update

Before you mail quiet subscribers, send three emails

Before you mail the quiet part of your list again, ask them one honest question first, then stop mailing the people who do not answer.

Before you mail the quiet part of your list, send a short re-engagement series. Each email is an honest note to people who stopped clicking, replying or buying. It asks one question: do you still want these?

Who counts as quiet

Judge by clicks, replies and orders, not opens. Some email apps load content in the background whether or not anyone reads it, so an open can be wrong. Match the window to how often you send, count sends received, and treat any number as a starting point. Skip people who joined recently.

Three plain emails, about two weeks

  1. A check-in. Still want these?
  2. A useful note. One question, easy to answer.
  3. An honest final notice. Say what will happen and give a real date. Then actually stop on that date.

Suppress or archive the people who stay quiet instead of deleting them.

Put the rule on an index card. Inactive means no click, reply or order in the window. Check every quarter as a starting point. Anyone who clicks, replies or orders stays.

Your sending record stays clean, and you stop mailing people who forgot they signed up. Some inboxes now let a reader ask AI for a summary of an email thread, and a short plain check-in reads cleanly there.

Next step: the re-engagement email guide.
